I cant make a tortilla to save my life. I have tried many timse before. I
tried your recipe, I followed your instructions exactly and mine are
horrible, just barely edible. they are too thick. yours rolled out round,
mine, well some look like a map of the USA. but I wont go there. when I
tried to roll them thin and round, the edges would spring back, but you
roll them out and they stay round. I dont get it. I ate my awful tortillas
for supper, but I went out after supper tonight and bought some nice round
thin soft ones from the store….I wish I knew what it is I do wrong.
I’m so oddly attracted to this cook’s personality
Thanks Hilah. This recipe looks much better than with the Masa flour
tortillas i made before. Can’t wait to try your recipe for myself and my
wife.
What kind of container is that you keep your flour in? I would love to get
one.
You FORGOT to tell us how much milk the recipe requires. Was it 10 ozs ?
The American Pyrex measuring jug is different to a European one, and has
different gradations, and is not clear to see.
By the way, in this video you come across as being slightly DRUNK…..
(just thought you should know.)
Im pretty sure im the only one that make these just for the substitute of
play-dough
I love your video’s, lol your so funny, and you make good food, and the way
you did that jobby lolll
First time watching your videos…last time too. Why do you do this if it’s
such a negative experience. And who throws food around like that. You’re
not funny.

Perfect Hilah, simply perfect, best tortillas I’ve ever had, a snap to make
too, only took me 10 mins to cook them after the rising.

how much butter?
Who cares if this recipe comes from a Mexican or American?! Natives already
made corn tortillas far before Spanish invaded the country that now we call
Mexico and Mexicans. Sure it’s nicer to learn it from a Mexican who has
been doing it all his/her life and that runs in the family, though
Americans can cook great aswell. By the way I like the beginning of the
video too, very nicely done!! Will replace the vegetable shortening with
vegan butter though lol
@thlastlovee Baking powder is sold in most supermarkets. You can use oil or
lard instead of shortening.
@ j singh.. tortilla is not a English word. its a Spanish word. in english
grammar “ph” makes an “f” sound. but we certain don’t pronounce the p and
the h do we. in Spanish grammar “ll” makes a y or phonetically a “e” sound.
do a little research on the origin of a word and it’s grammar before you
try and come off trying to sound intelligent. all you do is make a fool if
yourself if you don’t know what your talking about
These look great! I’m making them tonight Thanks!
@CumulusSkies The little rolling pin isn’t necessary. I think a friend gave
it to us years ago. You can use the same ratio of lard to shortening. Lard
is more traditional and will give it more flavor. Let me know how it turns
out! Cheers, Jason
my mom makes the best flour tortillas in the world, she has making
tortillas for the past 50 years every day. Shes a real house wife
can i make this healthy changing the flour for almond flour?? and shorting
for coconut oil?? thanks for the video
orale !
Great recipe – simple, easy to follow and definitely taste like the real
thing!
See comment way up. He is part Mexican. Does it matter? Anyone can learn to
make tortillas.
it’s been bugging me for a very longwhile so I might as well say it ……
Did the person who first wrote the word tortilla in English not know how
‘L’ sounds or did he not know how to spell? why the hell did he/she/anyone
think of putting not one but two ‘L’s’ in a word which bloody well does not
even get pronounced even once????????????? And why the hell did everyone
else follow the same spelling?????? hmmmmmm
can you sub vegetable shortening for vegetable oil? It’s impossible to find
crisco or any other vegetable shortening here where i’m living at the
moment. thanks
Ive really got to try this
How long can you keep them once cooked?
can I use coconut oil instead of shortening?
Ha ha! I am here for you!
@Almostskilled Sure! That would be a burrito or quesadilla.
So then I could use this to make 1 giant shell also right? Like on a cookie
sheet?
Because it is not an English word! It’s a Spanish word. Who doesn’t know
that tortilla is a Spanish word….geez!!
woah thanks for a very useful instruction, chef! I made it today with lard
and it’s great! I served those tortilla with scrambled eggs and my family
just loved it. thanks again xo
